Andalusia’s Corinthian Sims and Jacard Townsend had double-doubles on Saturday to help lead the Bulldogs to an 89-76 victory over Enterprise to claim the 44th annual Andalusia Invitational Tournament title.

Sims led the Bulldogs with 25 points and had 12 rebounds. Townsend added 17 points and 10 rebounds.

This was the third meeting between Enterprise and Andalusia this season, and the third straight invitational title for the Bulldogs.

The Wildcats came out hot in the first period taking a 10-2 lead early, and with 6:12 on the clock, AHS coach Richard Robertson took a time out to regroup his players on their game plan.

“We made it hard (for us to get the win),” Robertson said. “I wasn’t satisfied with our execution. We gave up too many points on defense.”

After the time out, the Bulldogs (11-1) started to chip away at Enterprise’s lead. Andalusia’s speed and quickness on defense were too much for Enterprise, as the Wildcats gave away too many turn overs, which the Bulldogs turned into points on transition.

Andalusia led 18-15 late in the first period, and the Wildcats broke down from there, letting the Bulldogs’ defensive press get to them.

At the end of the first period, the Bulldogs led 21-20, and then outscored the Wildcats 11-9 in the second period to lead 32-29 at the break.

Andalusia stepped up its tempo in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 20-12 in the third period and 25-24 in the fourth period.

“You’ve got to come in and chew on them a while and find out what they’re doing to you,” Robertson said. “I changed the defense from what we’ve been running. That was the first itme we ran that defense this season (in the first half).”

Robertson said one thing he was proud of was the fact that Enterprise didn’t get any second or third opportunities to make shots.

The Bulldogs surged ahead over the Wildcats taking a 64-52 lead at the end of the third period.

More of the same from Andalusia’s dominant inside game in the fourth period yielded its 11th win of the season.

Tournament MVP Quayshaun Denson scored 22 points for the Bulldogs. Derrick King scored 12 points and Victor Benson chipped in 10 points.

In other action at the tournament, Opp fell to Luverne 46-35.

Andalusia will play host to Pike County today at 4:30 p.m., starting with the B-team.
