Jonathan Brian Fleming remained in jail as of Tuesday, held on $150,000 bond in the shooting death of his mother, Angela Susan Fleming.

Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said he had hoped Fleming would receive a high bond because of his “potential flight risk.”

Fleming was arrested Thursday night after sheriff’s officials arrived at his house in the Damascus community, about 10 miles from the Covington-Escambia County line, and found the 26-year-old preparing to leave the home. Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said Fleming’s mother’s body was wrapped in a rug in the back of the suspect’s truck.

“He said, ‘She was my mother, and she deserved to die,'” Lambert quoted Fleming.
