Shelter adopt-a-thon set for Saturday

The Andalusia Animal Shelter is making it super easy to bring an animal home for the holidays this Saturday.

Shelter director Christin Ball said the shelter is hosting an adopt-a-thon where the only cost to adopting an animal is any type of donation from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

“The only thing we ask is that your donation is not of pet food,” Ball said. “We have plenty of that. Our goal is to make sure these animals have a nice home for the holidays.”

Ball said with each pet adopted, new owners will be entered into a drawing for a spa package for their new pet, as well as a one-night stay at the Holiday Inn Express for the new owners.

“So really, it’s something for the entire family,” she said. “That new cat or dog gets a great spa session by Fur Kidz on River Falls Street, and the new mom and dad get a night away from home to a suite with all the amenities the hotel provides. We think that’s a great deal.”

Ball said there are approximately 30 dogs and close to 15 cats and kittens available for adoption.

New owners will be required to sign a form for the spaying and neutering of any animal not already fixed, she said.

“These animals deserve a good Christmas, too,” she said.

Dr. Bob Bush, the rolling veterinarian, will be on site offering discounted rabies and other services, as well.
