Straughn relied on its transition game on offense, and beat Red Level 63-26 in varsity girls action on Tuesday night.

SHS coach Scott Kinsaul said he was proud to see his girls do well in the game as they have done in practice the past two weeks.

“We’ve worked hard on our pass breaks,” Kinsaul said. “We try to do as much as we can to get easy shots and easy buckets.

“I’m glad to see something that we’ve worked on at practice going over into the game,” he said.

Straughn strutted out to an early 14-0 lead with about three minutes to go in the first period, and then outscored Red Level 14-8 in the second period to take a 32-16 lead at the break.

In the third period, Straughn took a 45-20 lead when Katy Messick found Sierra Danford on the inside with 2:35 left.

Straughn took the game out of reach when Katelyn Kinsaul nailed a three-pointer with 37.2 seconds left in the third.

Straughn then outscored Red Level 14-12 to get the win.

Jacie Williamson led Straughn with 10 points. Anjelica Bonham and Messick added nine points each. Kinsaul and Katy Lindsey chipped in six points each.

Shelby Holley had seven points for Red Level.

RLS girls coach Delores Douglas declined to comment after the game.
