ALDOT uses extra caution this season

In an effort to decrease the number of highway-related deaths, the state department of transportation announced there would be extra precaution taken, to ensure motorists safety.

ALDOT director Joe McInnes announced this week that there would be no temporary lane closures on state interstates beginning at noon today through Sun., Dec. 26, at midnight.

The same observances will apply from Thurs., Dec. 30, through midnight Sun., Jan. 2, 2011.

Last holiday season, 10 people were killed in Alabama traffic accidents during the Christmas travel period.

In addition to ALDOT efforts, the Alabama Department of Safety‘s “Operation Safe Holidays” have increased the number of  state troopers patrolling Alabama’s highways during the holiday season through Jan . 2, 2011.
