Red Level boys basketball coach Allen Catrett said the 13th annual Red Level Invitational Boys Christmas tournament will be a good one to see next week.

Eight teams will compete in the tournament over three days beginning Mon., Dec. 27.

“There are going to be some good games at this tournament,” Catrett said.

Red Level (7-5) will start against Straughn at 7:30 p.m. on Monday night. The early game on Monday will start at 10:30 a.m. with Montgomery-Catholic facing Highland Home. Flomaton will face Georgiana at 1:30 p.m. and LAMP will play Goshen at 4:30 p.m. on the same day. Each team will play three games total.

In between each boys game, the Red Level girls tournament will take place.

The girls tournament consists of teams from Andalusia, Elba, Brantley, Straughn, Georgiana, Luverne and Red Level.

Each tournament will have a loser’s, or bottom bracket, and the champion will be crowned on Dec. 30.

Catrett said his team’s 49-44 overtime win over Straughn on Dec. 21, came at a good time in the season because his team has “improved” since the Thanksgiving tournament at SHS.

“In the Thanksgiving tournament at Straughn, we played real well,” he said. “We came back, and we lost the first two ball games by single digits at Straughn.

“We’re glad to be playing the way we have,” he said. “We’ve been playing better since then. We’ve still got to learn to play against adversity. If we don’t make it hard on ourselves, then we’ll be all right.”

Additionally, Catrett said he knows the first game against Straughn will be a tough contest.

“In our own tournment, we might be in the loser’s bracket after the first game,” he said. “Straughn had a good game plan in place (on Dec. 21). They played hard.

“We’ve got to execute better on our end,” he said.
