Andalusia girls coach Bennie Shellhouse said the aim in tonight’s contest against area opponent Headland will be to “play as hard as we can.”

“We’re going to try to do some of those fundamental things right on defense,” Shellhouse said. “We’re going to try to improve on our ball defense.”

The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a 63-33 win over Straughn on Tuesday. They enter tonight’s match up 13-4 on the season.

Right now, Shellhouse said his team’s athleticism will be the big key in area play.

“So far, in looking at our area games, our athleticism is our biggest asset,” he said.

When asked what part specifically contributes to the team’s athleticism, Shellhouse said it all has to do with “instinct.”

“And our ability to have three people to handle the ball,” he said. “We’ve got two kids that are 5-10, 5-11 under the goal. Right now, we’re just more athletic than the other teams.”

Additionally, Andalusia will put its shoulders on Shi’Amber Townsend, Alison Daniels and Alexis Horton tonight, Shellhouse said.

“There’s a couple of key people that we want to focus on to make sure they play well,” he said. “Hopefully, Shi’Amber will rebound well, Alison will rebound well and handle the ball some. Alexis will do what she does.

“It’ll also be a good chance to get a couple of our younger players in, that just need some playing time in tight games,” he said. “I hope to get some of them in in the first half.”

Tip off tonight for the Lady Bulldogs will be around 6 p.m.
