Pleasant Home will hit the road to play Florala in a good old-fashioned, small-school area rivalry contest tonight.

Before taking on Ponce de Leon Thursday, the Eagles were 9-7 on the season Florala sits at 1-10.

PHS coach Jerry Davis said Florala’s record doesn’t really paint the full picture of how good the Wildcats are.

“It’s going to be a pretty tough ball game,” Davis said. “They’ve been playing some good folks. They’re probably bigger than we are. I’m hoping defensively we can control them a little bit.”

Florala is coming off a 54-49 overtime loss to area opponent Kinston Tuesday. Additionally, Pleasant Home enters tonight’s game one-up in area play after a 46-34 win over Geneva County Tuesday.

For the Wildcats, boys coach Brad Garner said he hopes the “momentum” from Tuesday night’s overtime loss will carry over into tonight’s game.

“I just hope we can keep improving, and carry the momentum we’ve got,” Garner said. “I think we match up OK with Pleasant Home.

“It’s a big game, and we get them at home,” he said. “Let’s see if we can get an area win.”

Davis said the Geneva County win on Tuesday night came as a result of some late baskets.

“We were very fortunate to get out there with a win,” he said. “You win one at home, so you can steal one on the road.”

As far as the rivalry aspect of the game, Davis said his team is “looking forward” to the match up.

“It’s going to be interesting,” he said. “We’re looking forward to it. It’s a rivalry game, and it’s an area game that it just kind of doubles what it’s all about.

“We’re looking forward to it,” he said. “I’m sure they’ll be fired up, and there’ll be a pretty good crowd for it, too.”

Garner said the keys to tonight’s game will be to keep “shooting the ball well,” and “keeping the turnovers down.”

Tip off in Florala is around 7 p.m.
