The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs will vie for what girls coach Bennie Shellhouse calls a big area game next Tuesday.

“Coach (Scott) Kinsaul’s a good coach, and he’ll do a good job preparing them to play us,” Shellhouse said. “I think that he’ll have his girls ready to play us defensively.”

By the time Andalusia will play Straughn on Tuesday, the Lady Tigers will have one game under their belt. Straughn played Brantley on Friday night.

However, Andalusia only played one game this week on Tuesday night against Ashford, where they won 66-32.

The Lady Bulldogs (15-4, 3-0 in Class 4A, Area 3) will face a Straughn team in whose last area game was a 40-38 win over Headland.

“They move the ball well on offense,” Shellhouse said. “We’ll have to play better defensively.”

The last time Andalusia and Straughn (2-1 in Class 4A, Area 3) met on the court, the Lady Bulldogs came away with a 63-33 win over their rival.

Shellhouse said it’s as much of a big game for Straughn as it is for his team. He feels as if a win on Tuesday night would enable his team to clinch the area.

“It’s a big game for them,” he said. “It keeps them in the running for the area championship if they beat us. For us, it kind of clinches it. I feel like we’re going to win the area.”

Additionally, Shellhouse said he knows Straughn will play with everything they’ve got.

“I feel like Straughn will have a very good game plan against us Tuesday night,” he said. “We’re going to have to adjust to that.”
