JAMES STINSON “RIP” RADCLIFF III

James Stinson “Rip” Radcliff III, died peacefully at his home in Detroit, Mich., on Mon., Jan. 10, 2011.

He was born Oct. 14, 1944, in the Naval Hospital at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. He was the son of Jim and Jean Radcliff and the grandson of Count and Eva Mae Darling, long-time residents of Andalusia. He moved to Andalusia with his parents in 1946 after the end of World War II.

He attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, he worked as an assistant college professor while he continued post-graduate studies in political science. He then joined the sales and management consulting firm of Williamson, Merrill, Taylor and Darling in Birmingham. He moved to Detroit in the mid-1970s and used his first-hand knowledge of the retail automobile business to become a successful creative writer and industrial film director for divisions of General Motors.

He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his free time enjoying his family, dogs and sports of all kinds. He generously donated his time to the Boy Scouts and will be remembered most for his charisma, intellect, sense of humor and ability to make lifelong friends. He was, and will continue, to be loved by all who knew him.

He is predeceased by his nephew, William Bradshaw Radcliff.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Radcliff; his daughter, Katie Radcliff of Charlotte, N.C.; his son, Jim Radcliff of Detroit; sisters, Betty Radcliff Kleiss (Pat) of Gadsden, Robin (Rickey) Rhodes of Bay Minette; brother, Donny “Dare” Radcliff of Mobile; a beloved uncle, Count (Janie) Darling of Naples, Fla.; stepbrother Ruck (Patty) Ashworth of Andalusia; stepsisters, Jean (Phil) Marlar and Susan Ashworth Small of Birmingham; and nieces and nephews, Jean (John Mark) Cooper, Robin (Jamie) Ewing, John (Beth) Rhodes, Brad Rhodes, Noel Rhodes, Thomas Radcliff, Virginia Radcliff, Bailey Murphy, Grayson Small, Oliver Small and David Ashworth.

BURRIE FRANKLIN GREEN

Burrie Franklin Green, 78, born March 9, 1932, of the Antioch Community, passed away in the Andalusia Regional Hospital on Wed., Jan. 12, 2011.

A private memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ida B. Green; three sons, Shelby (Jean) Green, Frank (Sandy) Green and Lester Green; four daughters, Claudia (Bob) Reed, Shirley Hall, Patricia (Wayne) Kelly and Sandy (Perry) Hudson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Coy (Gale) Green, and parents, Shelby Green II and Beulah Mae “Pope” Green.

He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

LOUISE HARDAGE SIMMS

Louise Hardage Simms, 86, died Fri., Jan. 14, 2011, in a local nursing facility.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Sun., Jan. 16, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Herb Carlisle officiating and Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Simms, and daughter, Connie Simms Lovelace.

She is survived by a daughter, Kay Brawner (Jim) Loveless of Chelsea; four grandchildren, Kelly Brawner Lambert of Okalahoma, Lori Lovelace of Florence, Leigh Ann Lovelace and Libby Lovelace Britt, both of Decatur; and two great-grandchildren.
