The Covington County Drug Task Force was awarded more than $132,000 in grant funds Monday.

The $132,165 award, which was announced by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, was part of a $3.05 million total to support 17 multi-jurisdictional drug and violent crime forces across the state.

The local 22nd Circuit Judicial Drug Task Force conducts undercover operations to arrest and prosecute drug offenders, find and dismantle dangerous methamphetamine laboratories and assist with other drug-related crime investigations. The Covington County Commission acts as fiscal agents for the task force.

The grant funds are used to cover operational costs of the DTF, including portions of agents’ salaries. There is no match required for the grant.

ADECA is administering the grants with funds made available to Alabama by the U.S. Department of Justice.
