GASTON HENDERSON

Gaston Henderson, 59, of Opp, passed away Sun., Jan. 16, 2011, in a Dothan hospital.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m., today, Tues., Jan. 18, at Stone Lake Gardens with the Rev. Randy Kelley officiating.

Survivors include one brother, Lonnie Henderson of Opp, and several nieces and nephews.

MILDRED SCHOFIELD

Mildred Schofield, 88, of Lockhart, passed away Thurs., Jan. 13, 2011, in a Florala health care facility.

She was born in Covington County, the daughter of the late Leander and Alice Holloway Patterson. She married William Hobson Schofield July 5, 1941. She was a member of the Paxton (Fla.) Baptist Church.

A homemaker, she took pride in her home with planting beautiful flowers and maintaining a garden. She was an excellent cook, and her greatest pride was teaching her children love.

Survivors are her loving husband of more than 59 years, William Hobson Schofield of Lockhart; two daughters, Aurelia Roberts of Cherokee, Okla., and Karen Gavin and husband, Leon, of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Pat Schofield and wife, Miranda, of Lockhart; three sisters, Inez Carroll of the Red Oak Community, Dorothy Nelson of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Hilda Geohagan of Laurel Hill, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Mark Roberts, Mike Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Tracy Irwin, William Vance “Bubba” Holloway, Scott Holloway, Lee Gavin, Michelle Wilson, April Tyree and Stephen Schofield; 15 great-grandchildren, Courtney, Clayton, Caleb, Kiera, Katelyn, Kolby, Alie, Joshua, Erwin, Brooke, Lauren, Nick, Dale, Kristin and Ashley; and one great-great-grandchild, Hayden.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Gloria Holloway; a sister, Elizabeth Moore; and a son-in-law, Jerry Roberts.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sun., Jan. 16, from Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank McIntosh and the Rev. Josh Lovelady officiating and interment in the Red Oak Cemetery.

MAMIE RAWLS MITCHELL

Mamie Rawls Mitchell, 95, of Red Level, died on Sat., Jan. 15, 2011, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held today, Tues., Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at Foreman Funeral Home chapel with interment in the Long Branch Cemetery and the Rev. Billy Smithart and the Rev. Dean Matthews officiating.

She is survived by five daughters, Lee (Bill Henson) Johnson of Red Level, Faye (Julius) Bass of the Carolina Community, Jean (Robert) Smithart of Andalusia, June (Ricky) Harper of McKenzie and Jane (Floyd) Cartwright of McKenzie; two sons, Wilbur (Barbara) Mitchell and Dean Mitchell, both of Red Level; 33 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Mitchell, and two grandchildren, David Michael Smithart and Mack Byrd.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John Butts Jr., Steve Mitchell, Heath Harper, Bobby Gene Godwin, Sam McNeil, Michael Smithart and Rickey Terry.

LENA BELL BARTON

Lena Bell Barton, 91, of Andalusia, died Fri., Jan. 14, 2011, in a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 17, at Beda Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Morris officiating. Interment followed at Beda Cemetery with Foreman Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by two sons, Charles O. Barton of Wing and Terry D. Barton of Pace, Fla.; two daughters, Sonja E. Chambers of Tallahassee, Fla., and Gwen Kelley of Andalusia; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beda Cemetery Fund.

BURIE FRANKLIN GREEN

Burie Franklin Green, 78, born March 9, 1932, of the Antioch Community, passed away in the Andalusia Regional Hospital on Wed., Jan. 12, 2011.

A private memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ida B. Green; three sons, Shelby (Jean) Green, Frank (Sandy) Green and Lester Green; four daughters, Claudia (Bob) Reed, Shirley Hall, Patricia (Wayne) Kelly and Sandy (Perry) Hudson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Coy (Gale) Green, and parents, Shelby Holland Green and Beulah Mae “Pope” Green.

He will be missed dearly by family and friends.
