New president has big plans

2011 Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce president Janna McGlamory said she wants to establish a retail association, move the chamber to a new home, and provide more networking opportunities for members during the coming year.

McGlamory accepted the chamber gavel from outgoing president Jed Blackwell during Tuesday night’s chamber banquet.

A manager of Harold’s Furniture and Flooring, McGlamory is an Andalusia native who said she has chosen to rear her children here, and wants to make the are an even better place so that her four children will make the same decision.

She said the chamber will work with the city to move the chamber’s offices to the city’s new light industrial park where it will also function as a welcome center.

In addition to the chamber’s current monthly networking breakfasts, the group will explore reinstating business after hours events, she said.

Quoting Gov. Robert Bentley, who in his inaugural address said “Alabama’s best days are ahead,” she said she believes “Andalusia’s best days are ahead.”
