The Opp City Board of Education voted Tuesday to amend the school’s calendar after schools were closed Mon., Jan. 10 due to the threat of ice and hazardous driving conditions.

Instead, teachers reported to school at 9 a.m. and school officials utilized the day as a teacher work day.

Superintendent Michael Smithart said the decision was made in an effort to compensate for the day.

A teacher work day was originally scheduled for Feb. 21, but it will now become a regular school day.

In addition, the board:

• voted to amend the salary supplement to include a $1,545 supplement for a head boys and girls tennis coach.

• approved employment for Kevin Kelley as a part-time special education aide at Opp Middle School.

• was recognized by the student bodies at Opp High School, Opp Middle School and Opp Elementary School for school board member appreciation month.
