Judge Carl Barbier of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on Thursday appointed Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange as coordinating counsel for the state interests in the Deepwater Horizon oil-spill litigation.

Louisiana’s attorney general said he believes each state should represent itself, and he plans to challenge the appointment in court.
