Jacard Townsend’s 33 points helped lead Andalusia to an 87-62 regular season victory over Northview (Dothan) Thursday night at AHS.

The second-ranked Bulldogs (24-2) led by as much as 19 points in the first half, but the Class 6A Cougars cut into Andalusia’s lead, and trailed 40-29 at half time.

“We knew what they were going to do, and we started off a little sluggish and a little slow,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said. “Then, we got things going. The thing we’ve got to learn how to do is when we’ve got somebody down, we’ve got to have a killer instinct and don’t let them back up.”

The Bulldogs took Robertson’s philosophy to heart, outscoring Northview 22-16 in the third period, and 25-17 in the fourth period.

Overall, Robertson said the team did what they needed to do to win, minus a few things that were planned out in the first place.

“We did what we intended to do,” he said. “I think we could’ve taken complete control earlier than when we did.

“We let them hang around too long,” he said. “We never went into some things I thought we might have had to go into, and that was good.”

Corinthian Sims scored 22 points, and Townsend’s 33 was a career-high for the junior.

In varsity girls action, the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Cougars 52-25. The girls improve to 19-4 on the season.

Andalusia will play three games next week to end the regular season.

The Bulldogs will travel to play T.R. Miller in Brewton Mon., Jan. 31; will play host to Brantley Tues., Feb. 1; and will play host to rival Opp Fri., Feb. 4 for senior night.
