Florala held Georgiana to nine points in the first half as the Lady Wildcats went on to beat the Lady Panthers 45-25 Thursday on senior night.

FHS senior Justina Clissold led the Lady Wildcats with 16 points. Paige Irwin contributed with 13 points.

“It was a good game,” FHS girls coach Ronnie Driver said. “Georgiana has a good ball club. It was one of those defensive type struggles.

“We got some baskets we needed,” he said.

Florala scored 10 points in the first period, and added 11 points in the second to take a 21-9 lead at half time.

Play was stopped early in the third period, as Georgiana’s Carmen Matthews suffered a seizer while on the bench. Matthews was taken to the hospital by the Florala Rescue Squad. Updates on Matthews’ conditions were unavailable when the Star-News went to press Thursday night.

After play resumed, Georgiana outscored Florala 8-6 in the third period.

The fourth period was an entirely different for the Lady Wildcats, as the girls worked the ball more in the paint.

“The girls did a real good job inside,” Driver said. “That really helped us tonight.”
