Pleasant Home senior Colter Poole nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to help lift his team to a 36-34 win over Straughn Friday night.

The Eagles trailed throughout the first half, 12-8 after the first period and 22-16 at half time.

But a strong defensive third period by Pleasant Home held Straughn to zero points while the Eagles added 11 points.

PHS boys coach Jerry Davis said despite the win, the boys didn’t protect the ball well.

“I thought Straughn shot the ball extremely well,” Davis said. “In the second half, it was bucket-for-bucket all the way through.”

Straughn wasn’t through yet, as they went up 34-33 late in the fourth before Poole made his game-winning three-pointer.

“They made a heck of a come back in the fourth,” Davis said.

Poole made his three-pointer with approximately five seconds left on the clock, Davis said.

Additionally, PHS senior Cory Sims had a double-double for the Eagles, scoring 11 points and adding 11 rebounds. Poole led the Eagles with 15 points.

For Straughn, Giavann Nurse scored 12 points, all three-pointers.

In varsity girls action, Straughn edged Pleasant Home 22-21.

Jacie Williamson led the Lady Tigers with 12 points.

Pleasant Home’s Erica Bullard scored six points.

In B-team action, Straughn beat the Eagles 43-34.

Devin Scott scored 15 points for the Tigers.

Pleasant Home will play host to W.S. Neal next Mon., Feb. 7, starting at 4:30 p.m. with the B-team.

Straughn will travel to play in the Class 4A, Area 3 tournament, where it will play Andalusia in the first round.
