Andalusia’s Marcus Taylor, an offensive line coach, was selected as the 2010 Alabama Class 4A assistant football coach of the year.

Taylor helped lead the Bulldogs to a 10-2 season and a berth in state playoffs.

Taylor said it was an “honor” to be recognized for his efforts on the field last fall, but he wasn’t the only one who deserved the credit.

“It was all the kids,” Taylor said.

“It all goes back to the maturity of those kids that we’ve got coming back (in 2011),” he said. “All of the credit goes to them because if they weren’t able to buy into what we were doing, then it wouldn’t work.

“I just want to thank coach (Brian) Seymore for giving me the opportunity at Andalusia,” he said.

Last November, Opp head football coach Jack Whigham nominated Taylor, who received the award on Jan. 29 at a coaching clinic in Montgomery.

Whigham said he nominated Taylor because of Andalusia improvement of play on the offensive line.

“As coaches, we just feel respect for what each other does,” Whigham said. “I could tell that their offensive line dramatically improved from the year before.”

Taylor will enter his fourth year as an assistant coach at AHS this fall for the 2011 season.

Additionally, Taylor will have four returning starters on the offensive line this fall for the Bulldogs.

He said he was “excited” about what lies ahead.

“I’m expecting good things out of those guys,” Taylor said. “This group has impeccable character. Their offensive line play is impressive, but their character is more impressive. These are some of the best kids I’ve ever been around in my life.”
