After a man posing as a door-to-door salesman in Opp allegedly made off with several household items, police are warning residents to be on the look out for the scammer.

Investigator Mark Kyser said that a man who identified himself as working with Green Co., stopped at an Opp residence and said he needed to measure the inside of the residence.

“He told them he was doing this in all the homes in the area due to high electric bills,” Kyser said. “Thus the resident allowed the subject to measure.”

Kyser said after the man left the Opp residence, the homeowner discovered there were missing items.

Kyser said that all Opp residents should be aware that the situation has occurred, but all other Covington County residents should be mindful as well.

Kyser said that it’s possible that the subject will move on to attempt the scam in Andalusia.

“It’s important not to allow anyone your home,” he said. “Call the OPD (or your local law enforcement agency if someone comes to your home or you have any information.)
