“What to get, what to get, what to get” is on everyone’s mind this Valentine’s Day.

For those who still have not answered that question, the options are abound locally.

The shelves of local drug stores, dollar stores and other retail outlets are filled to the brim with chocolates, cards and stuffed animals for this Valentine’s Day holiday.

However, no romantic holiday would be complete without flowers.

At Alan Cotton’s Florist, the coolers are brimming with roses of all colors and a huge selection of cut flowers.

“When shopping for your sweetheart, you can’t beat roses,” Cotton said. “That’s a given. That’s our No. 1 seller. Tulips are also good. We’ve got some very unusual containers this year that make stunning displays.”

Cotton said he is expecting a much different Valentine’s than last year, when snow hampered both sales and deliveries.

“I think people are going to get out and buy because the weather is supposed to be so nice,” he said.

Cotton said people have been placing orders for weeks.

“It seems like people are excited about the holiday this year,” he said. “And it seems like things are picking up. Attitudes are changing about spending money. The weather has been so cold, and the sun’s coming out some. It’s a good time to treat your valentine.”

Those shopping for someone with a bit of a sweet tooth need to look no further than the Meredith’s Miracle’s Sweet Shoppe, which is located in the Sunshine House on Stanley Avenue, will be open today from 9 a.m. until noon and on Monday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and is selling its famous candy sundaes. Cost is $15 without a balloon and $20 with a balloon. For a build-a-basket, the cost is from $5 and up. Chrissie Schubert cookies are also available, as well as host of other items.

For the special woman in one’s life, look no further than MaryAnn’s on the Court Square.

“We have what you need to make the ladies in your life happy,” said Kim Baumgartner. “We have the Isabella lotion, perfume and bath salt. If they like feminine, clean smell – something that’s not overpowering – they will love that.

“We also have Votivo and Isabella candles, and of course, MaryAnn’s visual indulgences jewelry, which are all one of a kind pieces,” she said. “If your special someone has everything, and you’re still looking for that fantastic Valentine’s gift, we’re here to help.”
