J.C. “BILLY” BROOKS

J. C. “Billy” Brooks, 94, died on Feb. 10, 2011.

He lived most of his life in the Carolina Community south of Andalusia. His work career was in the textile industry in Andalusia and Opp. He appreciated the country life and operated a cattle farm for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and many other outdoor activities. He had been a resident of the Somerville Community in Morgan County for the past 20 years before entering assisted living facilities in Huntsville. He was a Christian all his adult life.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mittie Huggins Brooks, in 2002, as well as their daughter, Dr. Linda Brooks, in 1988.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Lehn and Diana Brooks of Huntsville and Lloyd and Margie Brooks of Somerville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service were held at Cedar Grove Church of Christ Cemetery at 10 a.m., on Mon., Feb. 14, 2011. He was laid to rest in the family plot.

LIZZIE ELMORE

Lizzie Elmore, 96, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., Feb. 14, 2011, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wed., Feb. 16, at Beulah Baptist Church in Opp, with her sons, the Rev. James Elmore and the Rev. Dewey Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be held today after 2 p.m. at her home at 417 East Forth Street, Andalusia.

Survivors include her sons, James Elmore of Andalusia, Dewey Elmore Sr. of Kinston and Noah Elmore of Andalusia; four daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Fred Lawson, Shirley and Edward Morgan and Vassie Weaver, all of Andalusia, and Janice and Ben Skinner of Samson; 43 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Franklin Elmore; a son, Walter Ray Elmore, and a daughter, Effie Mae.

RONALD ELMORE

Ronald Elmore, 74, of the Judson community, died Sat., Feb. 12, 2011, in a Florala nursing home.

Funeral services were held Mon., Feb. 14, from the Judson Baptist Church with the Rev. Hank Roberts and the Rev. Dennis Knowles officiating, and interment following in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (William Ray) Huckabaa of Red Level; a daughter-in-law, Sommer Elmore Pittman of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, Bailey Elmore, Vicky Allen, Joseph Wayne Day, Kayla Leanne Day and Lindsey Starr; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ray (Judy) Elmore, Wayne (Margie) Elmore, Jacob (Martha) Elmore and Harold (Ferrolyn) Elmore, all of Andalusia; six sisters, Faye (Glen) Sightler, Barbara (Don) Bradley, Gloria (Eddie) Cannon, Glenda (Charles) Beasley, Charlotte (Gary) Smith and Elaine (Gordon) Bulger, all of Andalusia; a sister-in-law, Harriet Elmore Phelps of Andalusia; several nieces and nephews; and four special nieces and nephews, Ashley (Austin) Carter, Jason (Sherrie) Elmore, Danny Elmore and Sherry Baggett.

He was preceded n death by his son, Toby Elmore.

Pallbearers were David Elmore, Clay Elmore, Danny Elmore, Sammy Brown, Bo Baggett and Brian Whitehurst.
