Ladies nearing 50 and looking for socialization have a new option in Andalusia.

Eight ladies from the Covington County area have joined together to form a new chapter of the Red Hat Society, aptly called the Covington Red Hat Mamas of Andalusia, said Queen Ann Knotts of the Carolina Community.

“There used to be a Red Hat Club here, but they disbanded a while ago,” she said. “I have been a member of the Elba Red Hatters. I met ladies from over here who wanted to start one, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Knotts said the organization is looking for new members.

“We are a society of women that supports and encourages women in their pursuit of fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment and fitness,” she said. “We can go out of town to Red Hat conventions such as in Tallahassee and St. Augustine.”

Knotts said the group will meet once a month, where they will have a regular meeting, lunch and play games, exchange gifts and door prizes.

“You just have to wear a hat and have fun,” she said. “For those who are 50 and over, you wear red hats and purple clothes, and those under 50 wear pink hats and purple clothes.”

Cost is $5 to join.

Knotts said those interested in joining should call her at 334-504-1945.

“We’re really tickled,” she said.
