MURIEL C. SAVAGE

Muriel C. Savage 87, passed away Mon., Feb. 14, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Dothan.

She was born in Florala, the daughter of the late Alvin Carmel Carroll and Francis Lowney Aplin Carroll. She retired from Alabama Power Company after 23 years of service and later served as the librarian with the Florala Memorial Library.

Always active, she was engaged in real estate and the business life of Florala. She was a member of the Florala City Council, the Florala Garden Club and a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carrie (Chuck) Patterson of Opp and Laura “Sissy” (Ward) Merrill of Dothan; grandchildren, George Patterson III, Ingrid and Adam Pickron, Carla and Jason Nelson, Erica and David Hartzog, and Holly and Blake Legar; and two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Hartzog and Luke Leger.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Curtis “Bid” Savage.

Funeral services will be held today, Thurs., Feb. 17, at 2 p.m., from Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Charlie Leonard and James Pickron officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

HELON GANTT

Helon Gantt, 82, of Andalusia passed away Tues., Feb. 15, 2011, in the Elba hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Thurs., Feb. 17, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Sharpe officiating.

The family will receive friends at Keahey Funeral Home one hour prior to departing for the cemetery.

Mrs. Gantt worked as a legal secretary for 49 years with the Prestwood Law Firm.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Lynn (Kathy Chesser) Gantt of Andalusia; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Soles of Andalusia; two sisters, Ovenia Soles Butler of Ariton and Ruby Soles Bergstresser of California; and one grandchild, Walter Brandon Knight Gantt of Orlando, Fla.

Jacob, “Jake” Eugene Merrill, 85, of Andalusia, died Mon., Feb. 14, 2011, in a Tuscaloosa nursing home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 18, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Karthaus, Dr. Harrell Cushing and the Rev. John Foster officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Clyde Merrill of Andalusia; his son and daughter-in-law, John Jacob and Rhonda Merrill of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Martha Susan and Dr. Robert David Griffith of Tuscaloosa and Fran and Dwight Bostick; eight grandchildren; a brother, James Warren Merrill of Andalusia; and sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Guy B. Wilder of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be John Hill, Dr. Morgan Moore, Dwight Bostick, Dr. Robert Griffith, Benny Barrow and Harry Hinson.

The Rev. Lerlie Seales, 81, of Red Level, passed away Tues., Feb. 15, 2011, in the Opp nursing home.

The Rev. Seales was an ordained pastor in Covington County for more than 50 years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Fri., Feb. 18, at South Church of God in Red Level with the Rev. Buford Smith, the Rev. Anna Weaver and the Rev. Jason Justus officiating. Special music by Elbert, Jewel and Rusty Craig and Michael and Lynn Bush. Burial will follow in the South Church of God cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

David William Tadlock, 58, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., died Tues., Feb. 15, 2011, at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa K. Tadlock of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; son, Tyler Joseph Tadlock of Land O’ Lakes; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Romaine) Tadlock of Andalusia; and a sister, Tamela Viveiros of Pensacola, Fla.

Corrine Worley, 88, formerly of Red Level, passed away Tues., Feb. 15, 2011, in Jacksonville, Fla.

A resident of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., she was the daughter of Jesse James and Nancy Colvin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sat., Feb. 19, at Keahey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Vera Cruz Cemetery near Red Level, with Keahey Funeral home directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Olsen of Jacksonville Fla.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Robin Worley of Lake Placid, Fla., Ronnie and Mary Worley of Pollock, La., and Greg and Peggy Worley of Pensacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Judy Carnley Stanley, 54, of Andalusia, passed away Tues., Feb. 15, 2011, at her residence.

BERLON LAVON “B.L.” CORBIN

Berlon LaVon (B.L.) Corbin, a resident of Montgomery, formerly of Midland City, died late Saturday night, Feb. 12, 2011, in the Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas. He was 69.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 18,, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary with the Rev. Danny Quincey officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the mortuary in Headland.

Mr. Corbin was born in Midland City, the son of the late Elon Bascom Corbin and Gussie Camilla Hicks Corbin. He lived in New York before moving to Montgomery in 1974.

He was currently serving as the Vice President-Training and Education Department for Saladmaster. He had been employed in the cookware industry for more than 40 years, having served in several executive positions with Saladmaster for the past 10 years.

On Feb. 12, he was stricken with a heart attack and passed away. Earlier the same evening, he had participated in an awards banquet with CanAm Divisions’ Dealers and Consultants. He was the example of a “life changer.” He was known and loved as the “philosopher from Alabama,” with the gruff voice and huge heart.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eve Stokes Corbin and a brother-in-law, Hayward Cameron.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Wilene Goodson Corbin, Montgomery; a daughter, Kim Corbin (Don) Newberry of Prattville; two sons, David Kyle (Myra) Corbin of Millbrook; William Klay (Cathy) Corbin of Dothan; a sister, Agatha Cameron of Cottonwood; two brothers, Lowell (Judy) Corbin of Summerville, S.C., and Jackson Corbin of Dothan; seven grandchildren, Whitney Corbin, Kristianna Corbin, Madison Newberry, Matthew Newberry, Cody Corbin, Shane Corbin and Nicholas Corbin; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
