Attention motorcycle riders, get your riding clothes ready for the Opp VFW poker run Saturday.

Club manager Renee Hudson said the proceeds from Saturday’s run will benefit Roy Scarbrough and Linda Messick, both Opp residents.

“Roy is a veteran,” Hudson said. “He lost a lung due to Agent Orange, and now he has another lung infection. He’s not doing really well. We’re just trying to help him with medical costs and someone to sit with him.”

Messick is a burn victim who was burned over the holidays in an accidental kitchen fire.

“I don’t know the entire situation, but I do know she has an 8-year-old daughter,” Hudson said. “She has been in and out of the hospital and needs help taking care of her.”

Hudson said registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the first bike will go out at 11 a.m. and travel from the Opp VFW to the Red Level VFW, to an American Legion and Adams Package Food.

And one isn’t required to have a motorcycle to participate, Hudson said.

“You can ride whatever type of vehicle to the stops,” she said.

Poker hands are $10 per hand, and the Ladies Auxilary will sell barbecue plates for $5.

“We will have prizes for the best two hands,” Hudson said. “As well as 50-50 drawings.”

Hudson said there will also be a live auction that will begin at 2 p.m.

“We are in dire need of things to auction,” she said. “We will take anything up until noon on Saturday. It can be gift certificates, yard sale items, really anything. I would like to have them before Saturday to be able to tag them, but I’d rather get them Saturday than not have them at all.”

Those interested in donating items may bring the to the VFW, located at 1841 N. Main Street or call 493-3796.
