A historical marker commemorating The Horse Shoe Lumber Co. and the River Falls Power Co. was recently placed in River Falls.

The marker is located near the junction of U.S. Hwy. 84 and old Ala. Hwy. 55, just over the E.L. More Bridge over the Conecuh River.

Sidney Waits, who chaired the marker project for the Covington Historical Society, said it recognized two entities and the men behind those efforts.

E.L. More and his associate, Cyrus A. O’Neal, were principals in the Horse Shoe Lumber Company and the River Falls Power Company.

“These two businesses did a great deal to bring industry to this region and this marker recognizes the effort,” Waits said.

The monument was erected at a cost in excess of $2,000, which was donated by interested individuals.
