Karate class wins high honors at workouts

Andalusia’s Isshinryu Karate class attended the USYKA Winter Workout and Banquet Feb. 5 at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Ft. Walton Beach, and came away with top finishes in the showmanship and self-defense competitions.

The students placed as follows:

• Diamond Sasser — first place, brown belt

• Abram Guilford — first place, green belt

• Rexanne Butler — third place, brown belt

• Allen Butler — third place, black belt

• Curtis Butts — third place, black belt

• Tyler Martin — third place, green belt

• Reese Burkhardt — fourth place, brown belt

• Cheyenne Dugger — fourth place, green belt

Additionally, Andalusia students finished with the following ranking for the 2010 competition year at the awards banquet:

Junior green belt division

• Reese Burkhardt — first place

• Colin Marcum — second place

• Tyler Myrick — fourth place

• John Allen Wise — eighth place

Junior 9-and- under

yellow belt division

• Abram Guilford — seventh place

Adult green belt division

• Rusty Mears — second place place

Youth green belt division

• Alex Myrick — first place

• Cheyenne Dugger — sixth place

Adult brown belt division

• Rex Butler — third place

Youth brown belt division

• Rexanne Butler — fifth place

Junior black belt division

• Allen Butler — first place

• Hogan Nichols — sixth place

Allen Butler, Alex Myrick and Reese Burkhardt received “200 club” awards for achieving over 200 points in the 2010 rankings.
