Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb will deliver the State of the Judiciary Address to a joint session of the Alabama Legislature Tues., March 8, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.

The address is open to the public. Limited seating will be available in the gallery of the House of Representatives.

Earlier this week, a commission created by the chief justice recommended changes in sentncing laws that they say will reduce the number of inmates in Alabama prisons and save the state millions.

Cobb told The Associated Press the most important recommendation is to provide all inmates with supervision for as long as six months when they leave prison. She says inmates who don’t have supervision are much more likely to commit another crime.

Nine bills based on the commission’s recommendations will be considered by a House committee this month.

Cobb, one of two remaining Democratic officials who were elected statewide, is an Evergreen native.
