Michael Miles hopes “a call for unity among the community” will bring people to a communitywide prayer event at the end of the month.

Miles, an Andalusia native, said he felt compelled to organize an event that “would a show of unity beyond the walls of a building and an act that would allow the Holy spirit to tear down walls we have helped to build.”

The event will be held on the Court Square at 5:45 p.m. on March 31.

“I was led to the scripture found in Psalm 133, which says, ‘ Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity,’ ” Miles said. “I read that and thought, ‘That’s what this is all about.’

“That’s the basis of this thing – for people to come together in Christ,” he said. “I believe that churches need to come together not only in prayer, but also in service – and I don’t mean in having a church service, but in serving the community in any what that is needed.”

Miles, who is not affiliated with any specific church, said he spends his Sundays “visiting” area churches, spreading the word about the upcoming event, and offering whatever services he may provide for the church.

“I feel that it’s important to not separate ourselves (into specific denominations and church congregations), but we need to be willing to help out where needed,” he said. “If that means helping this church or mission one weekend and another church or mission the next, then do it.

“I don’t feel like we should be bound to one church to be involved in an outreach ministry,” he said. “I’m flat stupid for God. I think the thing is that we all want to work in the kingdom of God doing what we want to do, not necessarily what needs to be done. And that needs to change.”

Miles said he is sending a plea for participation out communitywide.

“I want us all to come and pray for our city, our county, our state, our nation and our leaders,” he said. “I want people to come and pray for whatever reason they may have in their heart.”

Miles said there will be three prayer leaders.

“But, this is not a led prayer event,” he said. “The focus is not going to be on anything but Christ. As Christians, we all have a common belief of one true God and that his son was Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sin and was resurrected.

“It’s not about being Pentecostal, Methodist, Baptist or what have you,” he said. “We all stand on those beliefs, and I think we should come together and celebrate that.”
