JOHN FRANKLIN CLARK

John Franklin Clark, 58, of Elba passed away Sat., March 5, 2011, at his residence.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held 11 a.m., Wed., March 9, at the Paxton Agriculture Building with the Rev. Jeff Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Miller Community Cemetery in Paxton, Fla., with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Clark of Elba; stepson, Jon Pupp of Elba; daughters Brandi Adams of Opp and Carla Buck of Georgia; stepdaughter, Kristen Pupp of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Carl Clark of Crestview, Fla.; grandchildren, Joshua, Hailey and Joneshia Clark.

Pallbearers will be Carl Clark, Clyde Kendrick, Ray Adams, Jon Pupp, Ben Moxley and Thomas Crabtree.

Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Kendrick.

BYRON PAYSON MOORE

Byron Payson Moore, 83, a resident of Wetumpka, formerly of Andalusia, died Fri., March 4, 2011, in a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Sun., March 6, at 2 p.m. at Union Congregational Church near Marbury, Ala., with Dr. Neal Hodo and the Rev. Bryce Cox officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline L. Moore, and sister, Betty Lawson.

VIRGIL LEWIS

Virgil Lewis, 78, of Wing, passed away Sat., March 5, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Tues., March 8, at Beda Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Kelley officiating and the eulogy given by the Rev. Johh Maust. Burial will follow in the Lewis Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Ilene Lewis of Wing; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Debbie Lewis of Crestview, Fla.; sisters, Vassie Hamilton of Pensacola, Fla., and Irene Mixon of Crestview, Fla.; two grandchildren, Rod Lewis of Ft. Lois Imogene Hutto, 87, of the Carolina Community, died Sat., March 5, 2011, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Mon., March 7, at the Carolina Baptist Church with the Rev. Matt Brady officiating, and burial following in Carolina Cemetery.

Survivors include her brothers, Donald Hutto and Howard Hutto, both of Andalusia; her nieces and nephews, Jean Reeves and Sandra Lucas, both of Orlando, Fla., Ann Fillmore of Brewton, Phillip Wells of Hartselle, Marsha Cay of Andalusia, Michael Hutto of Millington, Tenn., Jane Crandall of Hickory, N.C., and Mark Hutto of Peach Tree City, Ga.; several great-nieces and great-nephews and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Annie Belle Hutto; her sisters, Agnes Wells and Willie Mae Powell; and her brothers, Denton Hutto and Ray Hutto.

ELISHA JAMES ‘E.J.’

CUNNINGHAM

The Rev. Elisha James “E.J.” Cunningham, 74, passed away on Feb. 21, 2011.

Funeral services were held on Sat., Feb. 26, at Belleville Missionary Baptist Church in Belleville, Ala., with the Rev. Sidney C. Tucker and the Rev. Daniel T. Taylor officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

He was born to the late Charlie and Callie R. Cunningham on Sept. 12, 1936, in Conecuh County. He received Christ at an early age and joined Belleview Missionary Baptist Church.

He was educated in the Conecuh County public school system and graduated in 1958. After graduation, he began working to provide for his family at the Container Corporation of America (CCA) and retired in 2000 after 36 years of service.

The Rev. Cunningham was the original bass singer in the gospel group, “The Gospel Harmonizers,” that was formed in 1953.

He pastored at Beulah Baptist Church, Evergreen; Antioch Baptist Church, Andalusia; and at the Jordon Grove Baptist Church, Searight, and was the founder and pastor of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Dozier.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 21 years, Lou Ann; seven children, Dorothy Carol of Boston, Thelma Jean (Juan) of Hempstead, N.Y., Marilyn Arnita (Tony) of San Antonio; Morris Sylvester (Latonda) and Wesley Ladon (Tasha), all of Montgomery, Katina of Atlanta and Gwendolyn of Oklahoma City; one sister, Polly Mae Counts of Laurelton, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two devoted friends, the Rev. Johnny Atkins and the Rev. Daniel Taylor; a special and loyal sister-in-law, Shirley Freeney (Dot); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.

Kirk’s Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
