Opp Police Chief Nickey Carnley said Tuesday no charges are being filed against the Opp man whose alleged threats toward an Opp City Schools employee placed the schools on lockdown Monday.

Around 10 a.m. Monday, OPD received a call from Opp Elementary School reporting that Christopher Kip Jacobs, 41, was en route to the school armed with a gun and was planning on confronting a family member.

For safety precautions, police and school officials locked down all three schools within the city.

Jacobs was found on Brantley Street and was taken in to custody for investigation purposes, Carnley said.

“Upon further investigation, it was determined the initial report prompting the school lockdown was unfounded,” Carnley said. “No charges were filed against Jacobs relating to the school lockdown.”

However, Jacobs’ bond for a previous domestic violence incident was revoked and he was turned over to the sheriff’s department.

Carnley said that Jacobs violated the conditions of his release, which was cause for the bond revocation.

Carnley said he was thankful for the swift action of all parties involved.

“Coordination between school officials and law enforcement officials was excellent resulting in neither students nor staff members being placed in danger during the duration of the incident,” Carnley said.
