Ashford’s Leslie Morrow and Andalusia’s Olivia Dixon hooked up in a stellar pitching duel before Ashford’s Brantlee Kirkland delivered in the game’s only run on a single with two outs in the seventh to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs in a Class 4A, Area 3 game.

Morrow allowed just two hits and struck out 17 for Ashford, while Dixon gave up just one hit – Kirkland’s game winner – and struck out five.

Kirkland’s hit scored pinch runner Tanisha Johnson.

Amy Riley and Megan Pugh had a single each for Andalusia’s only hits.

The JV game also ended on a dramatic note as Ashford’s Brittany Hendrickson’s two-run double in the last inning – the bottom of the fifth – gave the Yellow Jackets an 8-7 win. Hendrickson was the winning pitcher for Ashford.
