Work on Opp’s $1 million, 40,000-square foot spec building is nearing completion, and Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said the city needs a tenant to fill the space.

The project, which is located inside Opp’s Industrial Park, will be complete within the month, Edgar said.

“We have some site work and paving left to do,” he said. “Really it’s about two weeks worth of work, but there are odds and ends that have to be completed.”

Edgar said the city did have a “good” prospect, but no paperwork has been signed.

“We feel like when the building is complete, we’ll find a tenant,” he said.

The building is being paid for through a municipal bond for capital improvement set aside for the project.

Additionally, Edgar said that bids for a contract for construction of the 10,000 square-foot expansion for Custom Collars will be let sometime within the next month.

“We’re already working on the plans,” he said. “Then the building will be under construction.”

The expansion, which was announced last March, will be located at the Opp East Industrial Park off of the U.S. Hwy. 84 bypass.

Edgar said the weather has played a part in the construction delay.

The company, which is owned by Bruce Cauley and manufactures numerous items for hunting dogs and pets, is expected to add 12 to 15 new employees once the building is complete.
