Opp falls to Dale County at invitational

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Opp rallied to score two runs with no outs, but Dale County held on to beat the Bobcats 3-2 at Straughn’s Invitational Tournament Thursday night.

The Warriors scored one run each in the second, third and fifth innings in their win.

Dale County’s Devan Dykes hit an RBI single in the second inning; and Tyler Rogers hit an RBI in the third inning.

The Bobcats were coming off of an 11-inning dual with rival Andalusia Tuesday night, where they won 9-5.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Opp had two men on base in scoring position with no outs.

Then, three batters hit pop ups to end the inning and the game.

Opp’s two runs in the sixth inning came when Trey Short hit an RBI double to score Dillan Ziglar, and courtesy runner Drew Wilson scored on a sac bunt by Dane Buckelew.

Hunter Roeser was 2-for-2, and T.J. Register was 2-for-3 for the Bobcats.

Buckelew had three strikeouts, and allowed three runs on five hits.

The score and statistics from Opp’s second game against Greenville were not available when the Star-News went to press Thursday night.
