A Dozier man who escaped police custody Wednesday night not once, but twice, was captured early Thursday morning at his home.

Joshua Patrick Hall, 31, was stopped around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after Opp Police Department officers received a call of a vehicle driving recklessly on the railroad tracks near Monroe Street, OPD Chief Nickey Carnley said Thursday.

“Upon investigating the report, the driver was located, but eluded officers on foot,” said Carnley. “Once they made contact, he was shortly taken into custody.”

Carnley said that when Hall was taken into custody officers noticed his breath smelled of alcohol, and several field sobriety tests were given.

Hall was then arrested for driving under the influence and attempting to elude officers and taken into custody.

“Also during the primary investigation, while at the scene, (Hall) gave officers his name and date of birth,” Carnley said. “But, it was discovered that he had given a false name and date of birth. Once his correct name and date of birth was obtained, it was discovered that he was wanted on previous charges on outstanding warrants.”

Carnley said after officers booked Hall into the city jail, he was transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital for medical attention concerning injuries he sustained in an automobile accident several weeks ago.

“While at the hospital, (Hall) escaped on foot from the emergency room,” Carnley said.

After officers conducted a detailed search of the area, Covington County Sheriff’s deputies and Dozier Police Chief Terry Mears were alerted since Hall was a Dozier resident.

Hall was taken into custody without incident at his home in Dozier and transported back to the Opp Police Department.

Hall is also being charged with giving false information to obstruct justice and third-degree escape.

He is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $130,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation by the OPD.
