Foul play has been ruled out in the death of a 2-month-old infant, who was found unresponsive just before noon Sunday, in Anda-lusia.

Lt. Paul Dean of the Anda-lusia Police Depar-tment said Adva-nced EMS was dispatched to a home on King Avenue at approximately 11:37 a.m.

“When they arrived, officials found the child not breathing and resuscitation measures were being performed by a neighbor,” Dean said.

He said the child was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Hospital officials then notified APD investigators and the Covington County Human Resources to take over the investigation, he said.

“Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, an autopsy was performed Monday, which ruled the cause of death as ‘accidental asphyxiation,’ ” he said. “This is a terrible, tragic accident, and we here at the Andalusia Police Department extend our deepest sympathies to the family.”

Dean said no charges will be filed as a result of the incident.
