An Opp man was pardoned for a crime committed nine years ago at Monday night’s council meeting.

Daniel Giddens was charged with domestic violence in 2002, Opp City Clerk Connie Smith said.

Code of Alabama section 12-14-15 states “the mayor may grant pardons, after conviction, for violations of municipal ordinances and he shall report his action to the council at the first regular meeting therof in the succeeding month with his reasons therefore in writing.”

“I have reviewed Daniel Giddens’ misdemeanor case and feel that a pardon is in order,” Mayor H.D. Edgar said. “It has been several years since this happened and his record has stayed clean.”
