Now is the time to be thinking about how to beautiful your yard, but if you’re stumped, look no further than the Covington County Master Gardener’s annual plant sale, set for Sat., April 2, at the USDA Agriculture Service Center.

Beginning at 8 a.m., the sale will last until every plant is gone.

“We pride ourselves on offering a wide assortment of native plants,” said Bonnie Reed. “We’ve just returned from the annual Master Gardner conference and we’re full of interesting facts that we’d love to share with community.

“For instance, many people may not know that insects don’t recognize ornamental plants,” she said. “So what that means is if your yard is filled with ornamentals – which are very pretty – you’re going to see a reduction in insects, and in turn, birds and wildlife.

“That’s why we so encourage planting native plants,” she said.

Some of the selections available have been taken from the yards of the Master Gardeners in the area and include dogwoods, red bud trees, day lilies, red buckeyes, grancy grey beard trees, some herbs and daisies.

“Now that’s just a sample,” Reed said. “We’ll have more, plus a wide selection from a nursery.”

Plant prices will vary.

“And we’re here to share whatever knowledge we have as a master gardener to help you create a wonderful garden,” she said.
