Tigers beat Rams 2-1

Straughn’s Josh Dewrell struck out 10 and allowed five hits in 10 innings to help lead the Tigers to a 2-1 area victory over Headland Friday night at Headland.

The Tigers improve to 21-4 overall, and 4-0 in Class 4A, Area 3. Straughn will play host to Brewbaker Tech next Mon., April 4, in a regular season action doubleheader.

The only area opponent Straughn has left is rival Andalusia. The Tigers will face the Bulldogs on Thursday at home, and will travel for the second game of the series Friday night.

Second-ranked Straughn took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a solo home run by Dewrell.

Headland tied the game up in the fifth inning, and both defenses held on to force extra innings.

The Tigers won the game in the top of the 11th inning on a sac fly from Chase Short that scored Zack Lunsford. Lunsford reached with a double, and Zack Turvin bunted Lunsford to third base.

Zack Stinson came in in the bottom of the 11th inning, and struck out two and gave up no hits for the save.

Dewrell was 2-for-5; Nick Allen was 1-for-3 with a double; Stinson was 2-for-5 with two singles; Lunsford was 1-for-5 with a double; and Short had one RBI.

In other area action Friday night, Andalusia beat Ashford 10-6 in the second game after falling 10-6 in the first game to win the series.
