As part of the company’s ongoing Give Back to Schools initiative, the Southeast Alabama Gas District recently awarded almost $35,000 to schools in Covington County.

Statewide proration continues to impact schools throughout the SEAGD service area, and the company’s Board of Directors approved fund distributions to all 19 school systems served by SEAGD.

“With the support and approval of our Board of Directors, our schools will receive more than $190,000 back from SEAGD this year,” said Greg Henderson, SEAGD president & CEO.

The dollars are directly related to each system’s previous year’s natural gas cost.

“We know that many public school systems in our area are operating at or below minimum operational funding, and some of the school systems are even using lines of credit to survive. Our Board members are working in collaboration with local schools to allocate the dollars to the greatest benefit of local students.”

Andalusia City Schools received $13,676, which will be used primarily for library upgrades, textbooks and materials in all Andalusia City Schools.

Andalusia’s SEAGD board member Kennith Mount worked with Andalusia City Schools Superintendent Ted Watson to determine the best use of the funding.

Covington County Schools received $21,289, which they plan to use to replace failing heating and cooling systems in county classrooms.

Mount and Opp’s SEAGD Board Member Durwood Edgar worked with Covington County Schools Superintendent Terry Holley to determine the best use of the funding.

“SEAGD is committed to the future success of our communities, and that starts with support of local businesses and schools,” said Henderson. “We hope this initiative is one we can continue for many years, and we hope it motivates others to do what they can to help their local schools.”
