Some 238 people participated in the first ever Rattlesnake Rodeo 5K on Saturday.

Organizer Emily Edgar said those participants ranged in age from 7 to 77.

“With the overwhelming number that participated, we project to be able to award at least two substantial scholarships to Opp High School seniors this May,” she said. “This is a perfect way to reinvest back into our community and without support from our community, this race couldn’t have taken place.”

Edgar thanked the sponsors, Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar and the city council, OPD chief Nickey Carnley and OPD officers, local churches, high school students and the OMS cheerleaders.

“To sum it up, the most important things I attribute to our success would be good people who love doing good things for others, sunny weather and being in Opp,” Edgar said.
