Every child dreams of what he or she will grow up to be as an adult.

For Opp’s Madison Wood, her dream is to become an artist, and with the help of Anita Ellis and Kathy Grantham of the Opp Cultural Arts Council, she’s realizing her dream.

Wood said she’s learned many different things from taking the children’s art classes the OCAC has offered on Wednesdays since January.

“Before, I didn’t know about the different types of paint brushes,” she said. “But now I do.

“I also learned more about painting,” she said. “I want to be a painter, because I like to paint. It’s fun. I paint at home, and my mama puts them up and saves them.”

Wood said her favorite painting is the one she painted a couple of weeks ago in her class.

“It’s a plant in a pot,” she said.

Wood said she learned of the classes through her father, who is friends with Ellis’s husband.

“I’ve had a lot of fun with this class,” she said. “I’m glad I participated.”

Children who are interested in art can take part in the OCAC’s “Splish, Splash Color Fun: Kids’ Summer Art Classes.”

“We’re going to take April and May off,” Ellis said. “Everyone has a lot going on, so we’re going to start back in June.”

The summer art classes will be held June 20-22 from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. The second session will be held July 18-20 from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Cost is $30 per child per session,

and supplies are included.

Ellis said the classes will focus on water and the use of color to create artwork.
