In Saturday’s final morning games of the 2011 Babe Ruth 12U World Series, Halifax, Mass., East Brewton and Oviedo, Fla. all got wins.

Halifax beat Hazlet, N.J. 4-0; East Brewton defeated Brewton 9-1; and Oviedo had an eight-run rally in the fourth to beat Lodi, Calif. 11-1.

In Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. final pool play games, South Alabama lost to Washington’s Othello 3-0 while Fern Creek of Kentucky rolled over Missouri’s Mineral Area 11-3. In the final game Saturday afternoon, Louisiana’s Franklin defeated Alex City 10-2.

Halifax, Mass. 4, Hazlet, N.J. 0

Halifax’s Shannon Grindle was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Libby Czarniak and Maddy Barone got one hit each.

Barone threw a no-hitter, while striking out seven batters in six innings.

Halifax scored two runs early in the first inning, and added two more in the fifth inning to seal the win.

East Brewton 9, Brewton 1

East Brewton got its first and only win of the tournament Saturday, defeating its town rival Brewton 9-1. The loss dropped Brewton to 0-4 in tournament play while East Brewton improved to 1-3.

The lone run for Brewton was their first overall run in the tournament.

Brewton led 1-0 after the first inning, but saw East Brewton scored nine unanswered runs to get the win by eight.

East Brewton scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and two in the fifth to get the win.

Brewton was held to four hits and made five errors in the loss while East Brewton had five hits and no errors.

Sky Gorum, Aleiha Emmons, Tory Wyatt, Lizzy Nichols and Erin Hartsel had one RBI each for East Brewton.

Haleigh Dubose got the win for East Brewton. She struck out four, and allowed 1.5 runs on three hits.

Rebekah Turner got the save.

For Brewton, Bethany McDonald was 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI.

Oviedo, Fla. 11, Lodi, Calif. 1

Oviedo scored eight runs in the fourth inning to help spur the 10-run win over Lodi, Calif.

Jordan Miller was 3-for-4 with two singles, one double and two RBIs; Morgan Murphy was 1-for-4 with a single and two RBIs; and Alex Southard was 1-for-3 with one single and two RBIs for Oviedo.

Natalie Murphy was 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI; Gillian Faberlle was 3-for-4 with two doubles, one single and an RBI; Taryn Wheeler was 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI; and Anne-Marie Watson was 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI.

Wheeler struck out three, and M. Murphy struck out four on the mound for Oviedo.

Lodi’s Hannah Russell and Taelor Ford had one hit each.

Fern Creek, Ky. 11, Mineral Area, Mo. 3

Fern Creek, Ky., used a five-run fifth inning to turn a two-run lead into a seven-run lead over Mineral Area, Mo., to propel them to an 11-3 win.

Fern Creek led 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but had their lead cut to 2-1 after Missouri plated one run in the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, Mineral Area tied the game at 2-2, but saw Kentucky had one run in the third and fourth innings and five in the fifth to take a 9-2 lead after five innings of play.

Fern Creek added two in the sixth inning to claim an 11-2 lead before Missouri added their final run in the bottom of the inning as Kentucky would claim the eight-run lead.

For Fern Creek at the plate, Kristen Smith, Jennifer Leonhardt, Taylor Childress, Brenna Dunlap, Danielle Walls and Beth Dichiara all had one hit each while Madison Williams and Stephanie Grether had two.

Grether had a double and one RBI and Jessi Welch had one RBI. Dunlap had three RBIs in the win.

Williams pitched in the win for Kentucky allowing one earned run, six hits, walked none and struck out nine.

For Missouri, Mady Hart, Emily Eaton, Hannah Hight, and Emily Gibson had one hit each while Lexy Easter had two. Hart, Madison Ziegler and Gibson had one RBI each.

Hight and Kaly Newland pitched in the loss and allowed 11 runs, three earned, walked six, allowed 10 hits and struck out one.

Louisiana 10, Alex City 2

An eight-run second inning for Louisiana was the difference in the game as Franklin defeated Alex City 10-2.

Louisiana led 2-0 after the first inning before scoring eight runs in the second to lead 10-0.

Alex City scored one run each in the third and fifth innings to cut the lead to 10-2 but the teams failed to score in the sixth as Louisiana won by eight.

Both teams had four hits each while Louisiana made one error and Alex City made eight.
