Pleasant Home’s Lady Eagles were no match for the Kinston Lady Bulldogs Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs claimed a 3-0 area win over the Lady Eagles in varsity volleyball action, winning 25-10, 25-17, 25-15.

This area game is on the cusp of Pleasant Home’s first volleyball tournament, which will kick off tomorrow morning.

With this loss, the Lady Eagles fall to 1-2 in Class 1A, Area 2.

Kinston led early in the first game 6-2, and only allowed Pleasant Home to break serve eight times.

The Lady Eagles would allow small runs throughout the first game, and give the serve back to the Lady Bulldogs.

Kinston’s front attack proved to be too much for Pleasant Home.

The Lady Bulldogs seized opportunities during the match, hitting the ball in holes created by Pleasant Home’s defense.

Kinston went on a roll at the start of the second game to force Pleasant Home’s wind to get knocked right out of them.

“That’s pretty much it,” PHS volleyball coach Jerry Davis said. “We had the win knocked out of us. It’s very much a momentum game.

“When somebody gets on a role like that, they take it away from you,” he said. “You just get down and it’s hard to come back.”

However, the Lady Eagles tied the second game at 10-10, going on a short 3-0 run before the Lady Bulldogs bounced back on a 6-0 run.

Kinston served out the game with a 24-17 lead for the win.

The Lady Bulldogs took an early 5-1 lead in game three, Pleasant Home tied it 7-7 and Kinston pulled away late to claim the match sweep.

“Volleyball is all about attacking,” Davis said. “They’ve got several other girls that have come along and are hitting the ball. If you return it to them, it’s constant.

“We made some great plays, but play after play they’re coming at you,” he said. “There’s no answer for that.”

In junior varsity action, the Lady Bulldogs won 2-0 (25-12, 27-25); and in junior high action, the Lady Bulldogs won 2-0 (25-7, 25-12).

Pleasant Home will kick off its tournament tomorrow against W.S. Neal after the Florala-Laurel Hill match at 9 a.m.
