GEORGE THOMAS ‘TOMMY’ BARNES

George Thomas “Tommy” Barnes, 58, of Foley, and formerly of Andalusia, passed away Dec. 1, 2011, in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Memorial services will be held on Sat., Dec. 10, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Berean Baptist Church in Elberta.

He is survived by his wife, Francis Barnes of Foley; two sisters, Mary Powell of Calvert, Ala., and Sarah Harris of Andalusia; and many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Adrian Barnes; mother, Nellie Gray Barnes; bother, Ricky Barnes; and sister, Mildred Hammers.

 

ELIZABETH L. WILSON

Elizabeth L. Wilson, 76, of St. Petersburg, Fla., was promoted to glory on Mon., Dec. 5, 2011.

Born in Andalusia, she came to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1959 from West Palm Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Candis Barber; brother, Farrish Blount; and granddaughter, Nala Wilson.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Bruce; children, Arlinda Johnson, Bruce O. Wilson Sr., Jewel Murphy (Keith), Yolanda Wilson and Daymeon Wilson; sisters, Hattie Easley and Eleanor Barber (Joseph); grandchildren, Veronica Hightower, Bruce O. Wilson Jr., Marcus A. Wilson, Brandy Spaulding, Michael Shorter (Ashley), Brandon Shorter, Jessica Wilson, Gabrielle Wilson, Kierra Wilson and Candice Wilson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church for more than 20 years, and she has touched countless lives as a foster parent.

There will be a visitation on Fri., Dec. 9, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a wake service starting at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Sat., Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis M. Murphy Sr. officiating.

 

NED H. WELLS

Ned H. Wells, 88, of Opp, died Wed., Dec. 7, at his residence in Andalusia.

Graveside services will be held on Fri., Dec. 9, at 11 a.m., from the Pigeon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery above Red Level. His son-in-law George Payne will deliver the eulogy.

Mr. Wells spent most of his adult life in Opp, and he was the director of plant operations at Mizell Memorial Hospital for more than 40 years.

Survivors include his daughter and son in law, Dr. Kathy and George Payne of Andalusia, and his grandchildren, John Christian Payne and Anna Rebecca Payne.

Pallbearers will be Ron Taylor, Rudon Taylor, Ronnie Taylor, Don Pridgen, Allen Miller and Verlon Cotter.

The family will receive friends at at Foreman Funeral Home tonight at 6.
