Work on a $373,845 sewer rehab project is under way in the city of Opp, officials said this week.

City Clerk Connie Smith said the project began on Monday, and crews are currently working on Eighth Avenue and Palmer Circle.

Smith said the area they are working is “primarily residential” and it shouldn’t pose may traffic issues.

In November, the city council awarded the low bid to Saraland’s Nordan Contracting for the project.

The project will bring a sewerage overhaul to the areas of Eighth Avenue, Rosaslie and Cummings area, where there is currently dated pipe and other sewerage issues.

Project Manager Tim Ramsden of CDG Engineers told the council the project should take 90 working days to complete.

Ramsden did tell the council he expected the crew would ask for a few days off for Christmas.

The project is being funded by a $420,000 Community Development Block Grant from ADECA.
