Area play in varsity boys and girls basketball will begin next week, and all local teams in Covington County will vie for a run at claiming a spot in the post season.

The following are the regular season area schedules for each team in the county.

Class 4A, Area 3

Andalusia and Straughn are in Class 4A, Area 3 together, and will square off Jan. 3 at SHS to begin their regular season area action.

AHS will play in Headland on Jan. 6; at home against Ashford on Jan. 10; at home against SHS on Jan. 17; in Ashford on Jan. 20; and at home against the Rams on Jan. 24 to round out regular season area action.

Straughn plays at Ashford on Jan. 6, and then will play at home against Headland on Jan. 10. The Tigers then will travel to play Andalusia on Jan. 17, and at Headland on Jan. 20. SHS will play host to Ashford on Jan. 24 to round out regular season area action.

Class 3A, Area 2

Opp will play at home against Pike County on Jan. 6; at Geneva on Jan. 10; at Luverne on Jan. 13; at home against Geneva on Jan. 17; at Pike County on Jan. 20; and at home against Luverne to round out regular season area action.

Class 2A, Area 2

Red Level has Zion Chapel, Samson, New Brockton and Elba in Class 2A, Area 2 action. The Tigers will play at home against Zion Chapel on Jan. 5; in Samson on Jan. 6; at home against New Brockton on Jan. 9; at home against Samson on Jan. 13; at home against Elba on Jan. 17; in Zion Chapel on Jan. 19; in New Brockton on Jan. 23; and in Elba on Jan. 27 to round out regular season area action.

Class 1A, Area 2

Pleasant Home will play at Geneva County on Jan. 3; at home against Florala on Jan. 6; at home against Kinston on Jan. 10; at home against Geneva County on Jan. 13; at Florala on Jan. 17; and at Kinston on Jan. 20 to round out regular season area action.

Florala will play in Kinston on Jan. 3; at home against Geneva County on Jan. 10; at home against Kinston on Jan. 13; and at Geneva County on Jan. 20 to round out regular season area action.

The girls area tournaments will be Feb. 6, 9 and 11, and the boys area tournaments will be Feb. 7, 10 and 13.
