An Opp family got a shock Wednesday after a neighbor allegedly broke in and stole groceries from inside their home – while they were home.

Opp Police Investigator Walter Inabinett said officers were dispatched to the Micolas Street home around 6 p.m. to respond to the burglary and theft following a 911 call.

He said when officers observed 49-year-old Phillip Michael Harielson in the area, a short foot pursuit ensued, but Harielson was quickly taken into custody.

Inabinett said the groceries were recovered from inside Harielson’s home, and the Opp resident was then charged with second-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling and theft of property. He was booked into the Covington County Jail and later released on a $23,000.
