Work on a $373,845 sewer rehab project is nearing completion in the City of Opp, officials said Monday.

Tim Ramsden, project engineer from CDG Engineers told members of the Opp Utilities Board that the project is two-thirds of the way finished in terms of timeframe.

“We have only about 100 feet of pipe left to go in,” he said. “And that’s from a change in order on things we’ve added. They’ve finished the original portion of the project.”

Ramsden said there are a few odds and ends such as curbing, gutter work and resurfacing left for completion.

“It’s really substantially complete,” he said. “We’re going to try and add in the lining — called spectra shield — to a couple of manholes. It has to be approved through ADECA, and I’m not sure if we can get it through them. It will basically seal off a manhole.”

Once completed, the project will bring a sewerage overhaul to the areas of Eighth Avenue, Rosalie and Cummings Avenue.

The city received a no match Community Development Block Grant from ADECA to pay for the project.

When the bid was awarded, Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said he hoped the 90-day project would be completed in time for the city to apply for the next round of CDBG grants.

On Monday, Ramsden said he hopes that since the contractors are “ahead of schedule,” the city would be able to apply for the grants.

Additionally, Ramsden told the board that a new master lift station was completed at the waste water treatment plant located near Clark Furniture.

“We had the final inspection on Thursday,” Ramsden said. “We are very happy. It looks tremendous. We are very happy with the contractors. We finished a little early, and we are happy with the quality of work we received.”

The previous lift station fell shortly after construction began on the new one.
