An Andalusia man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a checkbook from a local pecan buying company and forging nearly 50 checks totaling more than $9,000.

Sgt. Cody Warren of the Anda-lusia Police Department said Monday that Tony Curtis Scott, 50, is charged with 47 counts of possession of a forged instrument II and one count of theft of property I.

“Camilla Pecan Co., which is based out of Camilla, Ga., has a local buying station in Andalusia,” Warren said. “We received a report that someone had stolen a checkbook from the company, and the investigation showed that the checks had been passed in Andalusia at various locations.”

Warren said the checks had been cashed by several individuals; however, it was determined that Scott was the only person who’d written the checks.

“Mr. Scott was interviewed and admitted to stealing and forging the checks,” Warren said.

He was arrested Friday and booked into the Covington County Jail on a $490,000 bond.

“But (Monday) morning, we got another 14 checks from around town, but he is not being charged with those,” Warren said. “Really, 47 is enough, but (Scott) will have to pay restitution on all of them.”
